ROMANIAN VISA


General information


Aliens who travel in Romania are prior obliged to apply for a visa at a diplomatic mission or consular office, except those citizens arriving from countries with which Romania concluded agreements on abolition of visa requirements or has renounced unilaterally at the visa requirement (see annex 1, 2 and 3). 
     Annex 1 - The list of States whose citizens are exempt from the visa requirement by Romania 
     Annex 2 - The list of States whose citizens are required to have visa without an invitation 
     Annex 3 - The list of States whose citizens are required to have an invitation to apply for a visa 
     Annex 4 - The list of States whose citizens are required to have visa for the transit area of an international airport of Romania

The Romanian visa is granted by the diplomatic missions or consular offices of Romania:
     a. at demand, for the aliens holding travel documents recognized by Romania, valid at least 6 months over the validity of the requested visa which was issued by the authorities of the receiving country;
     b. only with prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the approval will be given within 3 working days for citizens who are not those of the receiving country;
     c. only with prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the approval will be given within 30 working days for citizens of States with high potential of emigration (see annex 3).

Visa can be issued for one or multiple entries.

Exceptionally, the authorities of the border police shall issue visas, symbol M, A, SP, P, TR, TS, TD, according to the law in force. Visas issued at a state border crossing point must not exceed 10 days (entry visa) and 3 days (transit visa).


Types of visa


The Romanian authorities grant the following types of visa: 
     -diplomatic (symbol D) 
     -official (symbol S) 
     -simple for mission (symbol M) 
     -simple for business (symbol A) 
     -simple for independent activities (symbol AA) 
     -simple for aliens who invest or who are appointed to lead and manage an investment (symbol B) 
     -simple for employment (symbol AS) 
     -simple for religious activities (symbol R) 
     -simple for sport activities (symbol SP) 
     -simple for studies (symbol SD) 
     -simple for press activities (symbol P) 
     -simple for transport activities (symbol TR) 
     -simple for tourism (symbol TU) 
     -simple for medical treatment (symbol TM) 
     -simple for visit (symbol VV) 
     -simple for unify the family (symbol VF) 
     -simple for cultural activities, humanitarian or other activities which do not violate Romanian Law (symbol ZA) 
     -airport transit (symbol TA) 
     -simple transit (symbol TS) 
     -double transit (symbol TD)

Visas are valid and entitle holders to stay in the territory of Romania for:
     a. as long as agreed through bilateral agreements with other state or on the basis of reciprocity, in the case of diplomatic and official work visas;
     b. up to 30 days in the case of simple visa for employment, business, educational activities, documentation, religious or humanitarian activities, mass-media activities or other activities which do not violate Romanian legislation; such visas may be extended in Romania for periods which shall not exceed 6 months;
     c. up to 30 days in the case of simple visa for studies; such visas may be extended in Romania for periods which shall not exceed one year;
     d. up to 60 days in the case of simple visa for tourism, visit or another personal interest; such visas may be extended in Romania for another period of 60 days;
     e. 3 days from the date of entry into Romania in the case of transit visa.


Visa fees


     a. official and short-term visa: 
     -one entry - 25 US dollars 
     -multiple entries - 60 US dollars
     b. transit visa: 
     -simple (and for simple airport transit) - 15 US dollars 
     -double (and for double airport transit) - 25 US dollars
For expeditious issuance of visa (within 48 hours) additional charges: 6 US dollars.


No visa fee is required for:



     -representatives of International Organizations of which Romania is a member; 
     -members of foreign diplomatic missions and consular offices, who are accredited in Romania, persons who travel together with the Head of States, Prime Ministers; 
     -members of parliamentary delegations and other officials, as well their family members, on the basis of reciprocity; 
     -organized tourist groups, which provide evidences of prior payment of the services (voucher).
