ANTREC - The National Association for Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism in Romania
General presentation
The National Association for Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism in Romania, (ANTREC) is a non-governmental, apolitical and non-profit, association, member of EUROGITES (The European Rural Tourism Federation).
ANTREC was set up in 1994, and has now over 30 branches all over the country, 2225 members, over 2500 boarding houses and agro-tourism pensions, with 7500 rooms.
Starting from Black Sea to Bucovina and Maramures, over 2500 houses have suitable conditions for rural tourism.
The well-known natural and cultural inheritance of Romania, together with the traditional hospitality, are the best trump cards regarding the development of the rural tourism.
The rural tourism had been practiced in Romania before 1990, but not in an organized manner, the way it is today. Until 1989, hosting foreign tourists used to be prohibited by the law.
Through an efficient campaign, ANTREC succeeded in involving a large number of its members to put together various touristic programs, inside the country and outside of it.
